The cost for the one-week program is $800.00. This fee covers, workshop fees and production expenses, some meals, and snacks. A non-refundable application-processing fee of $25.00 must be submitted with application materials. If you are selected and choose to participate in GFS, a $200.00 non-refundable deposit will be due on June 1, 2006 to reserve your space in GFS. The tuition balance will be due before the beginning of the program on June 12th. There will be no refund of tuition after the program has started.

FINANCIAL AID
Every student accepted will be considered for financial assistance based on need as determined by our sliding scale (see below to download the sliding scale). We do not want the cost of tuition to keep anyone from attending GirlsFilmSchool. If you are accepted to the program, we will do everything we can to help you meet the financial requirements. If you are requesting financial aid, please fill out and send the financial aid form with your application.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO LEARN?

GFS is a program devoted to the art and creative process of filmmaking. During the one-week program, you will be introduced to basic concepts of writing for film, producing, acting, interviewing, editing, and video production techniques. Although the number of occupations in which women take part has grown, some fields still show a lack of representation by women, including the film industry. A 1997 report published by the Directors Guild of America showed that women represented only 12% of the membership. Of that 12%, only 2% are directors. GFS is a small step toward addressing this imbalance by providing a supportive positive environment for learning about filmmaking. We also believe that the tools for self-expression that you learn in this program will benefit you in whatever career you choose to pursue.

DAILY SCHEDULE
We will start at 8:30AM in the morning with refreshments, an open group discussion, and an overview of what is planned for the day. Morning classes will run from 9:30AM until 12:45PM when we will break for lunch. Afternoon classes will begin at 1:30PM and continue until 6:00PM. There will be ample time between classes for snacks and conversation. On Friday, June 23rd, there will be a dinner for participants and their families, followed by a public screening of the work completed during GirlsFilmSchool.

WHO TEACHES THE CLASSES?
Program faculty and professional film and video makers who are experienced teachers. In addition to the GFS faculty, you will be working with College of Santa Fe Moving Image Arts Students. A college student mentor will work with each group of five students. Our expert assistant mentors (graduates of previous GFS programs) will also be on-hand to assist you with equipment and questions.

HOW DOES GFS DECIDE WHO IS ACCEPTED?
Your application will be reviewed by GFS teachers and staff. Space in the program this year is limited to 20 students and we regret that we cannot accept every applicant. If you are not accepted this year you may reapply next year.

WHEN WILL YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE ACCEPTED?
You will receive a letter regarding acceptance to GFS no later than June 1, 2006. If you have applied for financial aid you will also receive information regarding how much financial aid you have been awarded.

TRANSPORTATION?
Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Once the days projects and classes begin, noon may leave the College of Santa Fe campus except in the event of an emergency.
